Midshore Intergroup Service Committees

Committees help carry the message, encourage fellowship, and show how AA works through service.

Committee meetings are open to all. 

Activities Committee

​Chair - Rachel C. 

Mission: Encourage fellowship among AA's.
This committee brainstorms, coordinates and promotes events* sponsored by Midshore Intergroup. It also supports events sponsored by Home Groups when requested. 

*such as Open Mic, Talent show, Bowling, Workshops, Dances.

What Volunteers Can Do: Attend committee meetings and share ideas for new events; set up or clean up at event, get others to help; obtain props and equipment as needed; distribute flyers and spread the word.

Service Requirement:

3 months of continuous sobriety

Committee meetings:

Held every other month at the Intergroup office and online.

Corrections Committee

Chair - Lynne R.

Mission: Carry the AA message to alcoholics serving time in jail. 

This committee coordinates schedules at detention centers and ensures that qualified AA members  bring regular AA meetings for women and men into the detention centers.

What Volunteers Can Do: Commit to speak/lead an AA  meeting once a month at specific location on assigned day. Submit any required paperwork. Report back to Chair # of attendees, if there was a cancellation, if literature is needed.

Facilities

Dorchester, Caroline, Talbot, Queen Annes, and Kent County Detention Centers.

Each facility has different clearance requirements and regulations.

Service Requirements 

6 months of continuous sobriety; having an AA sponsor is strongly suggested.

CURRENT OPENINGS: Caroline County needs female volunteers for every other Wednesday commitment.

Finance Committee

Chair- Gary Z.

Mission: Provide Intergroup with financial guidance, applying AA's 7th Tradition.

This committee reviews and prepares annual budget; works closely with the Treasurer; serves as mentors for committees; advises Steering Committee on business activities. 

What Volunteers Can Do: get to know the functions of committees; review & update spreadsheets. Bookkeeping knowledge would be helpful.

Service Requirement: 6 months of continuous sobriety.

Committee meetings: Held as needed.

Office & Literature Committee

​Chair- Larry R.

Mission: Provide access to Easton office for anyone who needs information about AA and manage AA literature inventory and sales.

 

Manages visitor log, volunteer schedule, office supplies and answering service. Logs incoming mail, contributions and literature sales. 

What Volunteers Can Do: Commit to a day/time each week to spend a few hours at the Easton office. Answer phones, sell literature, print out meeting lists. 

 

Service Requirements: 6 months of continuous sobriety.

Public Information Committee

Chair- Julie K.

Mission: Bring AA information to the general public.​

This committee distributes AA pamphlets and literature to general public at health fairs, libraries, and other venues where information about AA and alcoholism is sought.

What Volunteers Can Do: help set up tent and tables at functions; gather and set out pamphlets, talk to visitors and answer questions about AA; seek out other PI opportunities.

Service Requirement: 6 months of continuous sobriety.

Public Information Committee meetings are held every other month.

Treatment Committee

Chair- Kristie T.

 

Mission: Carry the AA message to alcoholics in rehabs and treatment centers.

Coordinates and schedules AA members and home groups to bring weekly meetings into treatment centers.

This committee also manages the local Bridging the Gap program and collaborates with Maryland General Service to connect alcoholics to AA meetings upon discharge. 

What Volunteers Can Do: 

  • Home groups commit to bringing weekly meetings (2 members) for an entire month.

  • Individual AA's volunteer to speak at weekly meetings.

  • Learn about Bridging the Gap and present information to Treatment Center residents.

  • Sign up to be a one-time contact for someone being released.

 

Facilities

  1. Project Chesapeake East New Market-Thursdays

  2. Project Chesapeake Greensboro-Saturdays

  3. Project Chesapeake, Grasonville-Sundays

  4. AF Whittsit Center, Chestertown​-Thursdays

 

Service Requirement

6 months of continuous sobriety; Having an AA sponsor is strongly suggested. Facilities regulations must be followed. 

Treatment Committee meetings are held online on the last Wednesday of each month at 6pm via Zoom.

Steering Committee

Chair- Nancy A.

Mission

Steering Committee meetings are held on the last Sunday, every 2 months at Midshore Intergroup Office

All are welcome.

Website Committee

Chair-Megan W.

Mission: Manage the digital outreach effort in the Midshore area, providing up-to-date information to alcoholics through website, Meeting Guide App, and print directories. 

This committee manages the Midshore Intergroup website account and updates 6 web pages reaching over 400 visitors each month. This work fosters communication with more than 100 groups in the Midshore area.

What Volunteers Can Do: Update the digital meeting lists on demand, update print list monthly; review web pages for accuracy; publish events and anniversaries; check Gmail messages; maintain archives of Intergroup meeting minutes, update resources from Maryland General Service and AA World Services. Stay on top of news, events and announcements. Familiarity with website maintenance is helpful.

Service Requirements 

6 months of continuous sobriety. 

Website Committee meetings are held online every other month.
